Liszt: Rhapsodie Espagnole
Tchaikovsky: Theme with Variations
Rachmaninoff: Elegie and Etude Tableau
Chopin: Ballades

Stellar young Australian pianist, David Soo will perform music by some of the great 19th and early 20th century romantic composers. The concert starts with two glorious Ballades by Chopin. Also featured are richly varied music by Tchaikovsky (his fine Theme with Variations) and Rachmaninoff (a ravishing Elegie and a richly passionate Etude Tableau) and the programme concludes with the spectacular fireworks display that is Liszt’s Rhapsodie Espagnole.

…Soo’s rendition of Liszt’s 1858 Rhapsodie Espagnole is something else… It’s a work that demands spills, thrilling glissandi sweeping up the keyboard, rhythms of Spanish dances from Andalusia… It’s vertiginous, outrageously showy, profoundly musical. Soo pulled off the difficult feat of making Liszt’s showmanship emotionally telling in the way his more searching works are.” Fringer Review
