Description
An evening featuring not just one, but a trio of composers from the greatest family dynasty in western music.
The programme opens and closes with works by the patriarch of the Bach family, Johann Sebastian.
The second surviving son, from his first marriage to Maria Barbara, was Carl Philipp Emanuel, a major figure in the musical life of northern Germany in the late 1700s.
The eighteenth child, born to Anna Magdalena, was Johann Christian, known as the London Bach, having settled in Britain. He was an early and prolific composer of symphonies and a major influence on Mozart.
The programme also includes a concerto originally attributed to JC Bach, but now widely considered to have more likely been written much later by Frenchman Henri Casadesus. Its more romantic style provides a contrast to the evening’s baroque and classical feast.
